Knee cap injury: Can u still bend the knee at least 90 degrees with minimal pain? Can you lift your leg up off the ground with the knee straight and using only your thigh ( quad ) muscles to accomplish this ? Is it improving with less pain and swelling ? If yes than u can treat with RICE ( rest ,ice. , compression, exercise like simple stretching ) ,if not u should see an orthopaedist.
