Let me try to help: Is this lump new or old? Did you have injury to the knee? If you do most likely it is bursitis in front of the knee cap? Normally that bursa is flat and can not feel it but when it injured have some fluids in it. Go and check it out. Good Luckt

Sounds like you may:: be having meniscal cyst, with or without a tear. An examination by an orthopod and MRI would be helpful to confirm and treatment started. Other possibilities of the reason of the swelling should become obvious with the above exam or the scan. Good Luck.
