It may mean that: you are approaching an extensive menstruation, or it may mean that your cycle is going to be irregular. Cramping can happen anytime during your cycle, depending on when the ovulation occurred and whether the chemicals in your body are in flux for some reason. If the cramping continues and you are a few weeks late, then check a pregnancy test and repeat 1 week later to be sure.
