Vaginal sex no risk: Herpes can only be transmitted by direct, personal contact with the infected area. Assuming you do not also have genital HSV1, vaginal sex cannot transmit it. However, kissing or oral sex could transmit it to his mouth or penis, respectively. He could have a blood test to see if he already has HSV1 (half the population has it). If so, he is immune to catching it again.
