Major Pain-Red Flag?: In most people, a significant increase in pain could indicate worsening infection. In people being treated for oral infections, a significant increase in pain despite being treated with antibiotics may indicate a location of infection that the antibiotic cannot reach (a tooth abscess, for example). These should be drained by a health profession (physician, dentist, etc.)

Infection ?: Is the tooth infected? A toothache does not imply infection. Have a local dentist examine the tooth and advise you of the appropriate treatment.

Toothache: Antibiotics can "help" control pain, but will not heal the cause (infection) of the toothache. An increase in pain is an indication that the infection is getting worse. See a dentist and have the teeth treated.
