See answer: Antipsychotic meds target symptoms in serious psychiatric disorders. They improve cognitive functioning by treating an underlying thought disorder. They are not to be taken primarily to aid executive function issues. If any slowing of mental functioning occurs while on an antipsychotic, doctor should review to lower/adjust dose. I hope this helps.
