which otherwise healthy foods should be avoided if you are constipated?

Hard to say: It may all depend. In general for constipation, a diet high in fiber including fruits and vegetables with skins on them as well as whole grains. However people who are quite constipated may have increased gas and bloating with these foods and therefore may not be tolerated. In this case medications may help.
