Hernia not the cause: Hernias don't cause constipation. If you have a hernia, and it's causing pain with bowel movements due to a large size, you should have it looked at soon by a general surgeon. Not related: Constipation not caused by hernia or visa versa. Though hernia may be exacerbated by straining at stool. Consider drinking plenty of water, high fiber foods, stool softeners (DSS) and Miralax (polyethylene glycol)
