There are numerous: causes of burning neck pain. The most likely cause is simple muscle tension. The muscles of the posterior neck really get a constant workout holding up your head all the time! It is a favorite place for muscle tension/stress to settle.More serious causes include cervical disc problems/herniation or peripheral nerve inflammation. Focus on heat, massage, gentle range of motion. If persists, see Doc
