White coat syndrome: Increases in diastolic/systolic pressure can occur during medical encounters. The change is tied to stress hormones that increase pressure within the cardiovascular system. Be sure your provider is aware. Simple solutions include breathing/ relaxation exercises during office visits, as well as wearable monitors that track bp outside the doc visit (when you are not thinking about it).

White coat HTN.: On the one hand, we feel that in this context the BP goes up in response to anxiety in the doctor's office. On the other hand, there can be many more anxiety-provoking episodes during the day during which nobody is there checking your blood pressure. So it could be seen as an exaggerated BP response to anxiety in general.
