RPR: Why did the doctor order an RPR? Routine screening for asymptomatic individuals not at increased risk for syphilis is not recommended. A 1:1 titer is extremely weakly positive. False positives can be caused by pregnancy, acute febrile illness, chronic liver disease, IVDA, lupus, HIV, or recent immunization. If your doctor is concerned about syphilis, he can order a confirmatory treponemal test.
