Likely period: At Day 23, if you were pregnant and miscarrying there would not be enough tissue there yet to cause that heavy of bleeding/clots. Sounds like your period just came a little early - not uncommon to have slightly irregular cycles when not on birth control. You could see doctor and have a blood beta hcg test done to see if any pregnancy hormone is detected if you are concerned/want to try to find out
