Need surgeon not GI: Hernias can be dangerous and an emergency if they get caught and can cause intestinal blockage or gangrene but if you have had symptoms for that long it would be unusual for it to be an emergency unless pain is suddenly severe and different. They only definitive care for a hernia is surgery so you need to see a surgeon not a gastroenterologist.
