Get an exam: It is probably nothing to worry about but the only way to know for sure is to get a dental exam. Depending on your ethnicity, pigment patterns vary in oral mucosa and silver amalgam filings sometimes cause tattooing in adjacent skin. Get it looked at to be sure..

Clinical Examination: It would be best if you visited a dentist for clinical exam in order to find out the cause, diagnosis and treatment if needed.

Where is it: If it's a dark spot on the tooth itself, it may be a cavity. If dark spot on the gum may be a healing traumatic injury (from, for example, a hard bread crust), tattoo from a silver filling, normal pigmentation, and rarely some more serious causes. If you don't smoke tobacco or marijuana and don't abuse alcohol, risks are low. See your Dentist for exam to rule out problem.

Relax: Have your dentist find out what the black dot is. It could be just stain. It could be a cavity, but so what? If it is, get it rstored.
