Get checked.: If after resting it a while, it is still so painful that she cannot bear weight, she needs to get checked. Kids break bones easier than adults. Don't force her to walk on it if it hurts, or move it.

Some waiting is OK.: Pain, when attempting to bear weight, is a very efficient mechanism that your body uses to protect against injury. If the immediate intensity goes away after a few hours, there is less chance of a more serious injury. Immediate treatment should include ice application, elevation and rest. Crutches may be needed initially, but if the pain continues, then have a specialist do a hands on evaluation.
