Could lithium prevent or hinder healing of gastritis? if so, would a delayed release version be more appropriate? or could other precautions be taken

In a couple ways: It is a salt like sodium and acts by replacing/interfereing with sodium in nerves. There is some direct irritation whenever a large pill is taken. This is helped by not taking it on an empty stomach. And, by interfering with normal nerve function, it can cause confusion, dizziness, etc. and this can cause nausea and vomiting ..which won't help gastritis.

Unlikely: However, more information is needed re lithium dosage, onset of gastritis etc. Best to see a GI doctor to evaluate. You can discuss lithium dosage adjustment and make changes if recommended.
