Probably for a long: while, as you get older typically the reflux issues get worse. So maybe even lifetime. Long term side effects of proton pump inhibitors (assuming that is what you have been prescribed) are not well studied, and there are no major trials to support presence of long term side effects. But potential problems include achlorhydria - complete absence of stomach acid - which may not cause real sympto
