Small risk: LEEP can cause the weakening of the cervical body. It may increase your risk of preterm delivery. However, most Ob-Gyns do not do LEEPs unless absolutely indicated and are not aggressive if they have to do a LEEP with the amount of tissue removed. Not necessarily: When done correctly, there are no sequeli to a LEEP procedure but it certainly is possible to cause permanent damage to the cervix and reduce the cervical length enough to cause cervical incompetence or scarring, thereby complicating future pregnancies.
