Not usually: If bruise is the only symptom, you are fine. If there is pain or a fever-- get checked iut.

Look: For signs of infection. If tender, red & hot then call the facility where you had the IV or have your doctor examine the site for possible infection.

Post IV bruising: Is the purple line heading up the arm or just in the crease of the elbow? If there is increased redness, heat to area, pain, swelling, see doc to have site checked for possible infection (lymphangiitis). Heating pad to area may help bruise resolve more quickly. Still concerned? See doc to be checked.
