What does 4 days of bleeding mean? period or spotting?

Depends on interval: the length and interval of the time really determine. If the bleeding comes when your period is expected and lasts about as long as your typical period, then it's probably a period. If the bleeding is lighter or at an odd interval to your normal cycle, then most people would classify it as spotting.
