To : To be on the safe side, you should take a pregnancy test. If you still aren't having a normal period in 2 days after that, take another test. You may need a blood pregnancy test as it is more accurate than a urine test. The biggest concern with spotting is that it can occur with pregnancy, but hormone fluctuations can also cause lighter periods or spotting. If you have pain, vomiting, or light-headedness/fainting, then you would need to be seen as an emergency.

One time symptom?: Many women have occasional variation of their periods, some spotting between periods, a heavier period, a lighter period, or even a missed period. Having one or two of these symptoms doesn’t necessarily mean there is a medical problem, but a call to one’s Ob-Gyn doctor is a good idea if symptoms are persistent, recurring, or worrisome. If possibly pregnant, one can do a home urine pregnancy test.
