Check with doctor: Though there are standard dosages for infants and children based on weight regarding antibiotics it is best to check with the prescribing pediatrician since they may not be following those numbers strictly depending upon the situation & severity of infection being treated. It may be an error to simply follow a number based on weight unless you know that you're in step with the doctor's plans.

20-40 mg per kg: The dose of amoxicillin varies from 20-40 per kilo per day in 2-3 divided doses. The lesser amount is used in milder infections and larger amounts are used in more severe infections. So if it is a relatively mild illness one can give 2.5 ml of the 250 mg per 5 ml suspension or 5 ml 3 times a day in more serious infections. The best person to decide is the doctor taking care of the child.
