Very Very Rare...: Fortunately, Amniotic Fluid Embolism (AFE) is very rare. Most Ob/Gyns practice their entire career without seeing a single case. Oxytocin is recommended for many reasons including prolonged labor. Best wishes!

Trust your doctors: Hospitals typically have policies on when and how to administer oxytocin (pitocin). These policies are based on scientific evidence and include avoiding harm to mother and the baby. Make sure the hospital, where you want to have your baby, does indeed have such a policy and have that policy explain to you by a doctor or your nurse, who takes care of you during your labor.
