Sleep Paralysis: There exists a neuromuscular condition known as sleep paralysis. An individual, while falling asleep or more commonly waking up finds that for a few seconds they can't move a single muscle. It is short-lived, remits spontaneously, and can be frightening. Seen in at least 50% of patients who have narcolepsy. It is not dangerous. As with any new and or unexplained symptom, check with your md.

Sounds like: A touch of sleep paralysis. This usually occurs during rem sleep but it is possible that it may occur on immediate awakening. Its cause is unknown but it is related to autonomic (automatic) nervous system and that is affected by poor diet that may well be the underlying cause.
