Hygiene problem: "Gum hole" caused by poor oral hygiene, not dental treatment. Tarter forms when plaque (mostly bacteria) not cleaned from teeth, and calcium from saliva precipitates out of saliva and accumulates in the plaque. Both plaque and tarter cause gum recession. Dentist's cleaning instruments do not reshape teeth. The more tarter you have, the more recession you will have.

Speak with DDS: When the dentist or hygienist removes the calculus that adheres to the teeth, you may feel "spaces" that was taken up by the debris. The dentist may advise scaling and root planing in addition to more enhanced home care and possible more frequent recalls. If needed, you may be referred to a periodontist.

It is impossible: and it cannot damage the tooth structure or hurt the tooth enamel. Dental cleanings are essential not just for clean teeth, but a healthy mind and body as well.

No: The scalers and cavitron tips do not remove any appreciable amounts of tooth structure. The reason(s) you feel spaces between your teeth include a) calculus is now missing and b) your puffy gums are beginning to tighten up as they heal. This is the problem when you have periodontal issues. Maintain your teeth at home and professionally to prevent even more bone loss.
