Depends on the dates: There are two main reasons for not seeing a heartbeat: wrong dates or abnormal pregnancy. We should be able to see a heartbeat at 4 weeks post conception. But often women don't know exactly when they conceived: they ovulated late, or had a long cycle. So we have some ultrasound parameters to help us confirm the diagnosis of miscarriage, and you may need two scans to be sure what's happening
