A member asked:

High d dimer of 480 and no clot. going to see hematologist. what could this be? i'm freaking out! could this be related to my birth control?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

D-Dimer: A positive D-dimer just means the body is in the process of breaking down a clot but it doesn't mean it's necessarily an important clot. A bruise or recent surgery can cause it to be elevated and false positives are possible as well. The specificity of a D-dimer for pulmonary embolism or leg clot is only about 50%.
