A member asked:

Throat feels swollen on one side all the time, flu symptoms like body aches. strep test neg. no fever, thyroid/other basic bloodwork ok. any ideas?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Viral and bacterial: Tonsillitis and pharyngitis can be caused by viruses such as infectious mononucleosis, or bacteria such as Group A strep. There are other bacteria that may cause symptoms as well. Throat culture could help find the source or rapid mono test. Most viral pharyngitis resolve within 10 days. With persisting symptoms throat cultures and additional evaluation would be warranted.
