Need med review: That seems like too many controlled substances at once and could result in addiction. Be sure that you review all of your medications with your physician prior to instituting any change in your medication regime.

It is not safe: Taking that much of an opiate can be deadly if not under the care of an experienced MD, preferably a pain specialist. According to the CDC, accidental deaths due to opiates (hydrocodone, oxycodone, morphine) cause 44 deaths PER DAY! This is an epidemic, so it is pretty safe to say that opiates are NOT safe medications unless under the CLOSE supervision of a Dr! http://www.cdc.gov/drugoverdose/epidemic/index.html

Opiate + benz = trou: It really is time for your PCP and specialist doctors to reconsider how they manage your pain and anxiety. Safe is a relative term. The combination of two central nervous system depressants isn't necessarily safe at any dose. You have developed a tolerance to your Xanax (alprazolam) so you might be able to handle the opiates. You should ABSOLUTELY avoid any other CNS drugs including alcohol.
