Pharyngitis: Hello. Pharyngitis is a term that means inflammation of the pharynx which actuall is the back of the nose, mouth and throat. Strep is a common bacteria that can cause pharyngitis. Common lingo sometimes uses strep to refer to a pharyngitis but it is important to realize that viruses are one of the most causes of pharyngitis and antibiotics are actually not helpful in these cases.
