Herniated disc: Herniated discs have a good chance of healing on their own within 4-6 weeks of onset. Typically, the body can reabsorb the herniated disc, allowing symptoms to improve. If there is persistent pain, numbness, weakness in the extremity after 4-6 weeks, or significant bowel/bladder dysfunction, difficulty with balance/walking, or profound weakness/dysfunction of the extremity, seek evaluation.
