Not all discs equal!: The MRI scan is a very sensitive test. As people age it becomes more likely that some sort of disc damage, or desiccation (drying and shrinking) will be found. Many of these findings are not clinically significant, i.e. Not a cause of pain. Findings such as a herniated disc (a disc that has been squeezed out of it's normal location) that is pinching a nerve or the spinal cord is more credible.
