You are safe!: The good news for you is that thanks to widespread vaccinations, epiglottitis is INCREDIBLY rare in most industrialized nations, canada included. The most common bacterial cause Haemophilus influenzae type b, is protected against by vaccinations. You have very little to worry about if you and your family have been up to date. Any difficulty swallowing foods/liquids needs to be seen however.
