Do you have to have a sore throat to have epiglottitis? i have shortness of breath and pain on the side of my throat and running nose and sneezing.

Not really: epiglottis is rare in your age group, you are describing common cold symptoms, possibly pharyngitis too, most of the time it is a viral infection, the common home remedies would help besides rest and pain killers, if not better, see your doctor, good luck
