A member asked:

Some kind virus in our family. had 102 fever 2 days. now fever gone. little dry or sore throat. no trouble swallowing. read about eppiglotitis. scared?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Look in your throat: There's a little 'grape' like thing hanging down - called the uvula, and if you say 'ahhhh' well enough, you might see the epiglottis which is a flap above the airway. (Directly below uvula). If those structures are red, swollen/inflammed, painful - then you need to be seen by a doctor. The absence of fever is a good sign. Fortunately epiglottitis is rare, but you want to be careful indeed.
