A 39-year-old female asked:

Bruise w/red circle: If the bruise is recent, it may itch. Some areas of the bruise may be more red or raised than others depending on the impact of the trauma. A typical bruise will start resolving in a couple of days, turning from purple to green to yellow then gone all together. If the redness persists or the bruise has not started to go away in a couple of days, please see your doctor.

Defect in tissue...: Ehlersdanlos syndrome (also known as "cutis hyperelastica") is an inherited tissue disorder caused by a defect in the body's synthesis of collagen. Collagen in connective tissue provided strength. In the skin, muscles, ligaments, blood vessels and organs, collagen plays a significant role and with increased elasticity they may not work right, leading to increased bruising.

Are bruises dangerous?

No.: For the most part, not dangerous at all. As they go away over 1-2 weeks they may turn a little yellowish, but that's normal. As long as the pain's going away also, there's nothing to worry about! cheers!

On blood thinners?: If you are on blood thinners, take a lot of Aspirin or Ibuprofen or advil (ibuprofen)... You may take longer for bruises to go away. Ask your family doctornif you can use natural products like arnica cremes or gels?
A 40-year-old member asked:

What kind of doctor, other than a primary care physician, should I see for severe & chronic bruising?

Hematologist: I would start with your primary care physician. When i ask women if they "bruise easily" 95% say yes. Most bruising is not a blood problem, but a skin problem such as dry, thin skin. Some other skin conditions can cause this. Blood problems can include von willebrands disorder related to platelet or coagulation factor problems. Start with primary care, physical exam, and simple labs.
