Dysmenorrhea: is the medical name for menstrual cramps. I presume you are having cramping pain in your pelvis/lower abdomen during menses. It is caused by natural chemicals called prostaglandins made in the lining of the uterus. It is usually worse at the beginning of the period. Main treatment is heat,OTC pain relievers, i.e. ibuprofen or naproxen.Birth control pills are next step. Exercise/relaxation can help

Menstrual cramps: Hi, menstrual cramps are normal , usually motrin should help but if pain is very bothersome, I would suggest talking to an ob/gyn. sometimes if your periods are heavy or irregular and causing discomfort, you might benefit from OCPs to regulate your cycles
