Dr. Alvin Lin answered

Which thyroid test?: There are many tests with which to assess thyroid function. Tsh or thyroid stimulating hormone is most commonly used w/slight variation from lab to lab. Tsh as well as T4 & T3 (liothyronine) are not usually dependent upon age. As always, when you want us to interpret results, we need to know test as well as reference range for results. Without that information, it's near impossible to give accurate answer.

QUESTION NOT CLEAR: Tsh of 4.58 is borderline. Or are you asking about total t4, free t4?
