Yes, sometimes.: This is one of the most common fungal infections. Lots of people have it, who don't have HIV. However, if you have symptomatic HIV infection (AIDS), you cannot fight off infection and are far more prone to all infections, whether fungal, bacterial, or viral. Safe sex, please! If you don't know if you may have it, get checked for it, and for other sexually transmitted diseases.

Maybe more severe: Candida albicans is normal on our skin and in our intestines and genital tracts, and the most common cause of yeast infection. Candida infections are more common and sometimes more severe in people with immune system impairment due to HIV. However, the vast majority of people with yeast infections due to candida do not have HIV.
