Is it possible to get dry socket the day your tooth wad removed?

Sort of..: It is certainly possible even likely to accidentally lose the blood clot in the extraction site very soon after surgery. The actual symptoms of a dry socket, however, won't usually appear until a few days later. While a dry socket is uncomfortable, the net healing in the future should be o.k.

It is possible: Dry socket occurs when the blood clot becomes damaged and ousted before healing is complete. Most dry sockets happen within the six days after tooth extraction.

Yes: The first 72 hours after extraction is when you would be most likely to dislodge the blood clot. Avoid rinsing and disturbing the surgical site.
