No: Whether the hernia is based in the inguinal canal or represents a weakness or defect in the abdominal wall, the symptoms you present with are of potential strangulation. If left to progress or if one finds that any incarcertated loop of bowel will go on to develop gangrene, it will require emergency surgery. The site of the hernia should be examined for the possibility of strangulation .
