A common exam: Checking the inside of an anus and rectum is a commonly done exam on adult patients. The doctor just sticks his or her finger in through the anus and feels around the inside of the rectum to see if there is anything unusual. It's a simple part of the physical exam, and no big deal. No normal adult is "put to sleep" for a rectal exam.

No: Digital rectal examination does not require any anesthesia. Just talking to your doctor and understanding the procedure will help you relax. It may make you uncomfortable but it should not cause any pain unless u have a problem like anal fissure or piles. Let ur doctor know. A routine examination should cause you no pain or harm.
