I just started period and when i lay down i have painful muscle spasm in one side of lower back is this normal with no stomach cramps?

Positional muscle: spasm is not that uncommon during menses. First there is uterine contraction which, if strong, can press on nearly blood vessels reducing the supply of oxygen to nearby muscles. When you lie down, shifts in blood vessel position in your pelvis may aggravate this phenomenon. As long as the spasm is temporary, I wouldn't be too concerned. Naproxen/ibuprofen should help. Stay well:)
