Pediatric dentist: This could be caused by a number of things. Trauma would be first on the list. Has the child taken a fall or bumped his/her mouth. Viral infection also comes to mind. Best to have it looked at by a pediatric dentist as soon as possible

Soft tissue injury: Your child probably tramatized the tissue that runs from lip to boney ridge. However there are other causes of pain in this region including fractured, injured, or decayed teeth, food impaction, infected gums, lesions, etc. would be prudent to have Dentist or Pedodontist examine your son.
