Meninges: The outside layers including the meninges and dura have lots of sensory nerves. Pain is very complex. Essentially all pain is in the brain since that is our end-organ of perception.

Multiple sources: Headaches can result from sinus pressure ; both sinusitis and changes in barometric pressure. Tension headaches can result from increased muscle tone . Nerves that run up the back of the head cause headaches (occipital nerves). Finally , the upper spine (cervical spine) has several sources of headache generators.
