Yes, if GERD present: Diagnostic upper endoscopy (EGD) is an optical examination of the upper GI tract by which inflammation & upper GI structural pathology can be assessed (both macroscopically and, with biopsy sampling, microscopically). Some histology is characteristic of GERD. Endoscopy may also facilitate placement of probes to measure reflux.
