Possibilities.: Pains in that area could be internal or external. External sources could include skin, hip joint or surrounding bursae or musculature. Has there been any trauma to the area? Internal sources would be less likely with your description, but the colon and appendix are in that area. Doesn't sound like appendicitis, though.
