Anatomic separation: When a woman gets pregnant, the Right & Left rectus muscles separate & thin to cover the growing baby. The umbilicus can bulge, a weakness of the tissues between the R & L muscles. It gets smaller after delivery but does not go back to normal. If there is a hernia, a pouch of internal abdominal fat or intestinal contents, a small one may not need surgery. Exercises with ab muscles don't treat it.
