Ophthalmic drops ok: Perhaps 1 in 200 people have a pharmacogenetic mutation which causes severe sensitivity to all the aminoglycosides, including gentamicin--but only if given IV or orally--and these people are at high risk of ototoxicity resulting in deafness. Still, ask your pcp if it is ok, and check expiration date.
