Switch: Generic versions of medicines in the U.S. Follow the same production methods and quality controls as brand medicines. If you are not responding to effexor (venlafaxine) generic, you may need something different or if you are not very depressed, simply talk therapy may work for you. The effectiveness of anti depressants depends on dose and they make more of a difference in severe mood problems.

Takes some time: Know that this medication takes 4-6 weeks before you see benefit. Even then, the dose may not yet be perfect or effective. Unless you feel compelled to harm yourself - and that this medicine makes those feelings worse - continue taking it until you’ve had a chance to discuss your concerns with your doctor. If you tried brand name Effexor (venlafaxine) before and think it worked better, discuss with your MD.
